All of these possible market campaigns are vital for films as they advertise the film itself to potential audience. It also allows people to find out about the film in many different ways as it is advertised through media texts. Moreover, the company who own the film and loan it to the cinema to show for a period of time are called the distributors. They are keen for the film to be successful in which they create a marketing campaign and this aims to raise awareness about the film. The outcome for this is earning more profit as more people would want to actually buy a ticket and watch the film in the cinema.
What makes a film high in demand and likeable?
- If the plot relates to a true story - This makes the audience more interested in the actual film as they would be more scared to watch the film.
- Links to other films - If it is a sequel or a remake of a horror film, this is likely to be popular and in high demand.
- Word of mouth - This is also important as peers who have seen the whole film may influence other friends/families to watch the film aswell and this creates recognition for the film itself.
- If the trailer is effective - The trailer should capture attention instantly for example the 'Blair Witch Project (1999)', the trailer is short and doesn't feature a lot of footage from the actual film. This is an effective method to use as it leaves the audience wondering what the actual plot is as the trailer doesn't give anything away.
- Famous actors - This may be a reason of why someone would want to watch an horror film if it features a famous actor who are famously known for their role.
- Classification of age - This mainly means the age rage in which the film focuses on for example most 'slasher' films are 15+
- Reviews/Critics/Ratings - If the film is highly rated, it is likely that the audience are more likely to go and watch it to see if it meets the standards.
